Inauguration of the "Wale Sam Ratulangi" Building
Friday, November 5, 2021, Sam Ratulangi University Chancellor Prof. Dr. Ir. Ellen Joan Kumaat M.Sc DEA in her speech said: it is an honor for us the academic community of Sam Ratulangi University if at this time we are still given the opportunity to meet to witness the Inauguration of Wale Sam Ratulangi in the midst of the momentum of the Birthday of Dr. Saul Samuel Jacob Ratulangi grunts. His widely known philosophy (“si tou timou tumou tou”) has inspired the implementation of Tridharma at this beloved university. We all can only be called humans, if we can humanize other people. Of course we don't just borrow and include names. Furthermore, we are all inherited the values contained in his philosophy, namely directing a life that is a continuous process to achieve an increasingly quality life.
The meaning of “Si Tou Timou” denotes a human who is not static, but continues to evolve. Another meaning is equality in all respects including ethnicity and gender. Furthermore, the meaning of "Tumou Tou" or Being a Person" indicates a complete human being or with integrity, not a puppet that can be controlled or easily swept away by unclear currents.
The Chancellor hopes that in the future Wale Sam Ratulangi will continue to be used to build and respect each other as a form of crystallization of values derived from Tou Minahasa's culture and historical experience which is tolerant and open to various positive changes.
The grandson of the third child of Sam Ratulangi who was present, Mr. Thor Sutan Assin in his speech said: The philosophy of Si Tou Timou Tumou Tou is the foundation of life for humans and all of us.
The big family thank you very much for all the birthday celebrations of Dr. Gerungan Saul Samuel Jacob Ratulangi, and also immortalized at this university.
Mr. Thor Sutan Assin hopes that the existence of this building can continue and carry the spirit of Opa Sam for all of us in continuing the ideals of humanizing other humans for the entire community of North Sulawesi and Indonesia in order to educate the nation's children.
